In an article by Michael Schulman in the New York Times on January 9 called, “Generation LGBTQIA” he describes what might be a new phenomenon or at least a re-invented phenomenon of labeling. These issues are not new. It seems every generation goes through a naming process and it seems these young people (most described in the article are college age) are taking things to a new level. “Post gay gender activists” are the subject of this article.
There were many interesting ideas in this article. People’s biographies always interest me. There were also points I personally found challenging. What does it mean that these talented young people don’t find existing LGBT organizations that fit their needs and instead of joining and making changes from within they create something new, again?
What do you think about LGBT vs. LGBTQIA?
